Activities, Honors, and Awards

Mezumenet A Cappella

 

President, January-December 2013

Member, September 2012 - Present

 

  • Established a long-term vision for the group and created a series of short-term goals to achieve this vision

  • Planned bi-weekly rehearsals and coordinated all performance logistics

  • Responded to inquiries

  • Maintained cohesion within the group and developed strong relationships with all clients

  • Held meetings with other group leaders to ensure productivity and efficiency

  • Assumed all financial management responsibilities

 

Being a member of the group also has its share of perks. Here are just a few of the cool things I've done during my time in Mezumenet:

 

  • Recorded a studio album!!! 

  • Competed twice in a national collegiate a cappella competition

  • Went on a spring break singing tour 

  • Completed an interview on a radio show to promote the group

  • Performed for audiences of all ages in Maryland, Washington, D.C., New York, New Jersey, and Delaware

  • Participated in countless performances around campus, including a final concert at the end of each semester

 

 

Smith Office of Global Initiatives

 

Study Abroad Ambassador, September 2014 - Present 

 

  • Student representative for the Office of Global Initiatives in the Robert H. Smith School of Business

  • Work with faculty, staff, and students to plan programming that celebrates and recognizes the importance of global competency and international experiences

  • Sample responsibilities:

    • Volunteer at Study Abroad Fair

    • Plan events for International Education Week

    • Speak individually with prospective study abroad students

  • Tasked with educating and inspiring people to become a part of the Smith global network and participate in one or more study abroad opportunities

  • Wonderful way to take on another leadership role at UMD

  • Able to convey my enthusiasm for travel productively and influentially 

 

 

Honors and Awards

 

President's Scholarship, University of Maryland

  • 2011 - Present 

    • "The President's Scholarship provides four-year awards to exceptional entering freshmen from Maryland and across the nation. The President's Scholarship program is the University's largest with awards ranging from $2,000 to $12,000 per year. Recipients are identified through evaluation of the admission application materials. Academic achievement, extracurricular activities, awards, honors, and an essay are the criteria reviewed."

 

 

Honors College Citation, University of Maryland

  • 2014

    • "The University Honors Citation is an academic distinction and formal acknowledgement that you participated in Maryland's University Honors living-learning program. The University Honors Citation appears on your transcript, and students who earn the Citation wear elegant red and gold Honors cords at Commencement."

 

 

Primannum Honor Society, University of Maryland

  • 2012

    • "The Primannum Honor Society at UM represents two national honor societies, Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma. Both of these national honor societies recognize academic excellence during a student's first year in college. Primannum is by invitation to freshmen who rank in the top 20% of their freshman class and who obtain a minimum average of 3.5 GPA."
